朝晩、または外に出たときに、冬を感じる毎日です。皆様、いかがお過ごしで
しょうか。こちらも11/25, 26の学会の運営に追われて発行が遅くなってしまい
ました。今年11月の活動報告を送らせていただきます。

11月はとにかく忙しい月でした。何よりも広島大学で開催した国際会議
JCREN2013の準備と当日運営、後処理にスタッフも学生も走り回りました。しか
も、この会議での発表も多く、発表する学生はそちらの準備、スタッフは発表で
きなかった学生の代わりの発表の準備にも追われました。

今回のJCREN2013は地元での開催であり、運営側として多くの発表を集める責任
もありましたので、通常はTOEICで650点がないと発表できない国際学会ですが、
特別に500点で発表させることとしました。500点ない学生は、当日までに500点
を取るようにということで申し込みをしたのですが、2人ほど500点に届かず、結
局スタッフが発表せざるをえませんでした。2人は当日はアルバイトで発表なし
です。

その上、11月は修士論文の中間発表、研究室の引っ越しも重なり、まさに大わら
わです。我々の住んでいる工学部A3棟のリニューアルがあり、半年間、別の場
所で仮住まいを余儀なくされています。リニューアルが終了したら5階に入る予
定ですが、早くても来年の3月までかかりそうです。

学生はスタッフとは別の建物に入り、学生の様子を簡単に見ることもできなく
なっています。週に1回のグループミーティングとゼミとを通して何とかしっか
りした指導ができるように工夫しています。

11月にはJCREN2013の他にも、サンフランシスコの米国化学工学会、バンコクの
ISEEE、ホノルルのワークショップなど、国際的にもいろいろなイベントがあり
ました。皆様のご協力に、この場を借りて御礼申し上げます。

今回は寄稿をM2のNattacha Paksung様、B4の伊藤佑樹様からいただいていま
す。Nattacha様の原稿には写真が含まれているのですが、このメルマガは携帯で
読む方もあり、テキストしか対応していません。写真を添付したものとしていな
いものの2つを送らせていただきます。今号も発行までに時間があったために少
し季節感にずれが出てしまいました。申し訳ありません。


■ 寄稿(Nattacha Paksung様)

Hello everyone. My name is Nattacha Paksung, but everyone calls me Pang
as my nickname. I am from Thailand, studying here since October 2012.
Now I begin my second year and four more years to go. Life in Hiroshima
University was not that easy at the first time. I had to adjust myself
with new atmosphere and make new friends. Even though, I was a one-year
exchange student in Japan once in Tokyo, difference place and
environment still made a big change for me. First step of changing was
suffering but once when I could adapt my lifestyle, I am now enjoying my
life at the present and will do my best during my stay here.

Last summer, I got a good chance to go internship in Japanese company
inside Hiroshima-city for three weeks. It was Construction Company,
which also construct many new energy plants in Japan. I was in the
environmental technology division and my duties were helping engineers
arrange surveyed data and so forth. Since the first day until the last,
almost no one talk to me in English. Anyway, my Japanese is poor,
everybody in the company tried to communicate with me in simple Japanese
word and talk to me slowly thus I could I understand them at most.
Every day was like Japanese lesson for me since I have to understand
their material, then I looked up a blunt Japanese word a day in
dictionary and concentrate a lot to understand what they wanted me to do
for them. What I have learn about Japanese way of working is that every
time anyone wants me to do them a favor, they explain about their work
from the beginning to make me understand what they are doing, although
what I have to do is very little of their work. After finishing their
explanation, I was assigned to do some work. This is what I like about
their way, since I can realize what I am doing for. What I regret most
was that I should have learned more Japanese so that at least I could do
more work for them, as well I could learn more from them. I also got an
opportunity to accompany them to the energy plant, both under
constructed one and now operating one (Fig. 1 Mega solar plant,

Moreover, what I have learned from the internship is the Japanese style
of working. Every morning, everyone in the division report what time
they will leave the office and this surprised me since most of them
report their leaving time over 8 o' clock at night. In the afternoon,
some of them went out to eat lunch, but the guy next to me does not. He
told me that it is sort of boring to eat lunch then he prefers to skip.
Actually, I have never seen him eat any meal. In the lunch break, most
of them slept on their chair and immediately got up after the bell
(inform that the break is over) rang. In my opinion, they should take
more rest but somewhat I guess working until late at night might be the
tradition that they have to follow. One more thing I learn from this
internship is that there are three rapid trains from Saijo station to
Hiroshima station in rush hour in the morning, which I was taking every
day. One day, I experienced Typhoon and the train was more than one
hour late from the schedule. The train could not run fast due to the
safety so I spent over one hour on that train, which takes normally
around only half an hour. After I could get out of that crowded train,
I receive the coupon that certifies I was late for work because of the

Finally, three weeks passed so fast, however I learned a lot and gained
invaluable experience. I could see the real working atmosphere of
Japanese people and of course my mindset was widened. I got a chance to
see what I could never see in the laboratory. At last, I hope that I
will get any chance to experience real industry again in the future and
do hope my research could help our society more or less.


■ 寄稿(伊藤佑樹様)

今年も西条が本気を出してきた模様で、朝夕は白い息がでます。今月の寄稿を担
当します、B4伊藤です。皆様、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。

最近ではフィリピンの超大型台風が耳に新しい出来事です。東日本大震災の傷跡
が消えず、自国にも未だ避難所生活を送る人がいる中「フィリピンのために募金
を!」をと叫ぶ人を見ると、自国の「優しい」一面と「忘れ易い・新しい物好
き」の一面が垣間見られ、複雑な気持ちです。

話しが変わり、広島大学ではJCREN2013が催されました。私は実験データが出て
おらず、残念ながら参加できていないのですが、同じB4が英語での初めての国
際発表を終えて、一回りも二回りも成長した清清しい顔を見ると、とても悔しい
気持ちでいっぱいです。受付を担当していたので会場内の雰囲気をお伝えできな
いのが残念ですが、熱の入った会議が繰り広げられたのではないかと思っていま
す。

さて、支離滅裂な内容になりつつありますが「やらぬ善より、やる偽善」。いつ
までも過去の文献とにらめっこしておらず、行動に移して、解らなければ素直に
先輩の教えを請う。そうしていれば、JCRENに間に合ったのではないかと思いま
す。考え込んで何もできない自分よりは「募金を!」と行動に移せる人が羨まし
く思います。

これからは雪の季節です。先日友人が吹雪の鳥取・大山へ行き、命からがら帰っ
て着ました。皆様も路面の凍結、体調管理等にお気をつけください。
